PROJECT MANAGEMENT OF CIVIL STRUCTURES AND INFRASTRUCTURES

This course aims at introducing students to the management of investments in the fields of real estate, buildings and infrastructures. The first step in the management of any investment is an accurate assessment of its value. For this reason, students will be introduced to the philosophy of “value investing” and to the most important accounting principles. This way, students will be taught the fundamental notions required to assess “micro” investments. The course will also focus on the assessment of “macro” scenarios and the fundamental criteria of market trends will be examined. Long economic cycles of growth and recession, along with their respective sub‐cycles, have an influence on all market industries but they affect even more strongly the real estate and building industries. Following the subject of investment assessment, students will be introduced to every stage of the investment development process. The course will explore and explain the fundamental notions of project management and management control, as well as regulation aspects in domestic and international legal systems. At the end of the course, students will be required to perform a work‐related exercise involving the use of the notions provided by this course.
