Students enrolled into the Doctor of Business Management can also enroll in the Doctor of Business Administration in Management program at Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica and receive two doctorates for their work.
 
This degree is designed for Full Members of the Design, Technology and Management Society to upgrade their qualification to Fellow membership.
 
The program is based on an in depth researched study in any field of endeavor in business, management, administration, commerce and many more areas. Students must prepare a dissertation in the usual style and format of not less than 90,000 words (200 to 250 pages). However, before work starts, students must present a rationale of the proposed work and the literature and research methods planned to cover the field completely.
 
The Doctor of Business Management focuses on the implementation, improvement and development of systems, methods or means of using the knowledge in particular areas.
 

The areas below are included into the student's research area and are assignment based areas to cover the research topic of the student. Each area requires a mini thesis of 8,000 words and each study area must have a bearing on the topic of the dissertation of the DBM program.

Successful students will be awarded a Doctor of Business Management degree from SCPU - Business School as well as a Doctor of Business Administration in Management degree from Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica.

Entry requirements

Age: 25 +
For learners who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include:

  •  Masters degree in Business, Management or related subjects or a level 7 qualification in Business, Management or related subjects for example a Post Graduate Diploma in Management
  • other equivalent international qualifications.

Learners must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments.

Learners may also have relevant work experience.

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive relevant work experience (paid and/or unpaid) with levels of responsibility, participation and/or achievement of a range of relevant professional qualifications. This may be used for recognition of prior learning (RPL).

Admission criteria: 

This program is designed to partially fulfill the Fellow membership requirements of the Institute of Management Specialists (UK) and to provide students a pathway to directly enter the second year of a Masters program at a number of UK universities.

Due to the flexibility of the program it is ideal for students who wish to complete a UK Masters degree, but study in their home country for the first year.

These qualifications are not tied to any specific industry but deliver the skills, knowledge and understanding that meet the needs of managers in different sectors on a domestic and international platform.
