The course provides you with a high command of an Asian or Mediterranean African language and advance knowledge of the related cultural realities, ranging from literature to history, from philosophy to religions, and sociology to art and archeology. The choice of languages are Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Persian and Turkish.

You will acquire a solid understanding of the field of classical traditions of the civilisations studied together with an in-depth knowledge of contemporary socio-cultural realities.

The course will be taught in the language of specialisation and in English.

The skills acquired will allow you to establish yourself in various areas of high professionalism: in international organisations for the protection of artistic and cultural heritage, in museums, libraries, public and private art collections if you choose the classic path. If you choose the modern and contemporary path you can specialise in organising and promoting cultural and artistic events, in consulting for social and educational services for welcoming and integrating non-EU citizens, or in activities related to the development and organisation of forms of sustainable tourism in East Asia and the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and the countries of Mediterranean Africa.

The Master's Degree programme in Language and Civilisation of Asia and Mediterranean Africa aims to model students that possess a solid understanding of a language in Asia or Mediterranean Africa (including micro languages). The linguistic understanding should be integrated with an advanced understanding of relative literature, history and cultural reality, and in their different dimensions (historical, philosophical, religious, social, institutional, archeological, artistic). Each piece of knowledge will be acquired both through teachings aimed at training cultural operators in the classicist sense who, in addition to the mastery of a modern Asian or Mediterranean Africa language, will also have a solid background in the field of classical traditions of civilizations studied (literature, philology and textual exegesis, figurative and performing arts, and religious/philosophical traditions); and through teachings aimed at training cultural operators in the modern field who, in addition to the mastery of a modern Asian or Mediterranean Africa language, will have a solid understanding of the socio-cultural contemporary realities of the studied countries, and their different aspects (literature, art, cinema, processes of cultural production, problems with gender and identity, elaborations of contemporary thought). In the Master's Degree programme, teaching will be carried out with linguistic variety, from the specialised language to the vehicular one (english).

Educational activities include classroom teaching, workshops and internships, in order to acquire wide-ranging skills that can be readily transferable into the world of work.
Knowledge gained by students will be assessed through written and oral exams during their entire university career.
The final exam consists in writing a thesis, which must possess the characters of originality, exhaustive documentation and scientific investigation and which will be discussed with a committee of university professors and experts.
