This Master's Degree Programme produces experts in philology, ancient literatures, ancient history and archaeology.
According to the curriculum chosen, you will acquire specialist skills and methods in archaeology, ancient art and material culture history, languages and literatures of ancient Greek and Latin civilizations or ancient history (including Greek, Roman and ancient East history).
Educational activities benefit from Digital Humanities state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies, allowing students to access texts and archives online and to use specifically designed analytical software.
You may further explore your field of interest in excavation experiences, internships in epigraphy, digital humanities workshops and internships in museums.
Once graduated you will be able to apply for positions of responsibility in institutions such as museums, local administration, archival institutions, publishing houses… or obtain the teaching qualification for junior and senior secondary schools.
This Master's Degree Programme aims to produce experts in philology, ancient literatures, ancient history and archaeology. According to the curriculum chosen, students will acquire specialist skills and methods in archaeology, ancient art and material culture history, languages and literatures of ancient Greek and Latin civilizations or ancient history (including Greek, Roman and ancient East history).
The educational activities include classroom teaching, workshops and internships, in order to acquire wide-ranging skills that can be readily transferable into the world of work.
During the whole university career, the various skills and knowledge acquired by students will be assessed through written and oral examinations.
The degree exam consists in writing a thesis, which must possess the characters of originality, exhaustive documentation and scientific investigation and which will be discussed with a committee of university professors and experts.

Qualifications/expertise after completing the program
Depending on the different curricula, second cycle graduates will be able to hold positions of responsibility in managing institutions, such as archaeological superintendences, museums, local administrations, offices in charge of cataloguing, documentation and restoration, excavation associations or cooperatives. Furthermore, they may find employment in the publishing field and proceed to obtaining the teaching qualification for junior and senior secondary schools.
Entry qualification : Bachelor diploma (or higher)
For Academic year 2018/19, admission onto the Master's Degree programme in Ancient Civilisations: Literature, History and Archaeology requires:
- an adequate personal preparation;
- specific curricula requirements, matured with the obtainment of a definite number of credits in certain disciplinary fields;
- understanding of English language at level B2: the list of certifications and cases of exemption are available on the dedicated web page. Each knowledge will be verified by the office at the moment of enrolment.

As proof of Italian language level we accept the following international exams:
Please notice that students lacking suitable certification in Italian will have to take a preliminary Italian language test, held every academic year at the beginning of September.
B2 level of English language is also required.

Please notice that students lacking certification in English will be required to fulfill the requirement in the first year of studies.

- Non-EU students from OECD countries (Australia, Canada, Chile, South Korea, Japan, Iceland, Israel, Mexico, Norway, New Zealand, United States, Switzerland and Turkey): 2100€
- Non-EU students from developing countries (http://www.unive.it/): 700€
- Students from all other countries: 1200€
In addition, Ca' Foscari offers students a variety of forms of financial aid: scholarships, exemptions and reduction of fees, student loans, prizes for outstanding dissertations and other forms of concession.
Some of the student loans involve agreements with banks allowing students to pay tuition fees on favourable terms. The most deserving students are entitled to an interest-free advance repayable a year after graduation.
