The Polytechnic of Milan is a state university of science and technology, founded November 29, 1863 in Milan by the name of Royal Superior Technical Institute. His fields of study and research include engineering, architecture and design. The Polytechnic releases academic degree, postgraduate, doctoral research and includes several PhD courses and Master's degrees. Currently the university has about 36,000 enrolled students. 

The 2012 edition of the QS World University Rankings, one of the most prestigious of the charts and renowned international universities, insert the Polytechnic of Milan among the top five universities worldwide and in particular decrees that, for the area of Civil Engineering-Construction, Polytechnic of Milan ranks as follows:

- 1st place ranking universities in Italy
- 9thplace ranking universities in Europe
- 44th place ranking Universities in the World
