Gdansk Foundation for Management Development launched it's first programme in 1990 in collaboration with Norwegian School of Management and IBM Training Centre. It started out as a small university with only 30 faculty members but it has grown to over 3 times this size. In 1991 Gdansk Foundation for Management Development was awarded first position on the list of newly established business schools in Poland. By 1992 the school offered 30 postgraduate & training programmes.
The first MBA programme offered by Gdansk Foundation for Management Development started in 1991 and was offered in partnership with Strathclyde University Graduate Business School from Glasgow - the first MBA graduates from GFDM were in 1994 and following this in 1995 this MBA programme was recognised by the Association of Management Education (Stowarzyszenie Edukacji Menedżerskiej) - FORUM.
Today Gdansk Foundation for Management Development offers over 80 postgraduate, masters or training programmes in both English and Polish. The school boasts connections with several major corporations in the Gdansk area include Gdańsk Oil Refinery, Gdańsk Shiprepair Yard, Polish Railways - District North, OLVIT Edible Fats, Gdańsk Phosphoric Fertilisers, Bank Gdański and Hestia Insurance. The programmes are targeted at those in top and middle management positions and curriculums generally focus on areas such as company management, human resources management, marketing, accounting, financial management and the legal framework of the Polish economy.
GFMD has several connections with other European universities and it is involved in debates and dicussions within the European Foundation for Management Development in Brussels. The school has connections with universities such as Erasmus University in the Netherlands, Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Scotland, Kaliningrad State Technical University, Corvinus School of Management, IAE Aix-en-Provence and Ashridge Business School, UK. GFDM has collaborated with a few of these universities in order to offer joint programmes, for example since 2008 Kaliningrad State Technical University and GFMD have been offering an international MBA course. GFMD also encorporates foreign lecturers from these partner universities into it's curriculum in order to enhance learning of international business management. The university also offers exchange programmes with these foreign business schools.
